Egret | Léké Léké. February 2020

This little bird started out as a quick sketch, and then I had a follower on Twitter share with me a story: “We use to call this bird “Léké Léké”. We believed a myth/superstition about this bird that if we sing “Léké Léké give me your finger, I will give you my finger”, we would have a white patch on our fingernails.” I did some research and found that it is a game children play in Nigeria, specifically the Yoruba people.
