Welcome to the Maple Lodge! I had the basic idea for the cabin and style I wanted to create during a series of livestreams on Behance throughout October leading up to Halloween (links below). A lot of the spooky elements added to the scene were audience suggestions—The Maple Lodge itself came from the chat, becoming a bit of a ghost story and developing its own lore. The watchful owl at the top was named “Marple” by the audience. I also challenged myself to create a haunted night-time scene over a white or light background. Once the Illustration was finalized, an SVG was exported out from Adobe Illustrator, and CSS animations were applied to the code. Quite a few animations were needed for the atmospheric fog to have the right timing.
