Spoup Season. October 2024

In keeping with tradition, we worked on another yearly October project. I wanted to keep it fairly simple this time, so I focused on a spot illustration of a ghost making soup. The chat came up with the idea to call it “Spoup Season” a play on “spooky,” or “spoopy” combining the words with soup. They may be little detail but I focused a lot on how to add translucency to the ghost, and adding reflected light to the face to help unite those two elements.

Final Art

Spoup Season, final art, large brown cauldron with hands for handles, and with "spoup season" engraved on the surface. Fire underneath, pumpkin soup inside the cauldron with floating chunks of pumpkin, eyes, and bubbles. Friendly ghost stirring the pot with a wooden spoon, yellow light reflected on face, floating chef's hat, steam or smoke in the background.

Process

I ended up redrawing the face on the ghost a number of times until I was satisfied with the expression. You can see on the left side the list of notes the chat help me come up with during the stream of elements to add.
