I think of this illustration as more of a spot illustration since it’s all self contained inside the umbrella. I really like how the story unfolded, sort of turning a rainy day on it’s head with the umbrella holding the water and making a little ecosystem for the ducks and frogs to swim. The duckweed ended up being a brush which worked out better than expected to create the layered opacity of it on the surface of the water.

I really wanted to work with a minimal color palette, which pushed the ducks into the greens which is really fun and works well against the darker blues and teals of the umbrella.
